Explanation

Private markets funds were long reserved for institutional investors and very wealthy private clients, with minimums of EUR 100,000 or more. Since the ELTIF Regulation as amended in 2024, there is no statutory minimum investment for retail investors in ELTIFs; many new funds start at EUR 10,000, some at EUR 1,000 or less, partly with a savings plan.

The minimum in the prospectus is not always the one actually paid: banks and platforms set their own limits, and different share classes have different amounts. A low threshold does not change the fact that the money only comes back on fixed dates and within limits. A sensible amount is therefore one that can be done without for several years.
